Seaweed Pressing Workshop at Sailors Jail Gallery - 12 April 2025, 1-3pm
Do you fancy spending a couple of hours learning how to press seaweed?
Come and join us for a relaxing creative workshop learning how to press seaweed. We will share our knowledge of seaweed pressing, including sustainable foraging, different seaweed pressing techniques, and species identification. We will look into the history of seaweed collecting and its connection with Falmouth.
We will forage before the workshop and bring along a fresh range of tip top seaweed for you to choose from.
In the session we'll cover some local seaweed history, what to look for when you're foraging for different types of seaweed, how to forage sustainably and we'll show you a range of seaweed pressing techniques.
We'll then guide you through the process of making your own beautiful and unique pressings, which you can give as gifts or keep them all to yourself!
We keep our workshops small so everyone has enough time to practice. We will demonstrate the basics, then you’ll have the chance to make some perfect pieces of beach art.
After the workshop, we take your work away and press it, carefully tending to it to give your pressings the highest chance of success, when the seaweed pressings are ready, we will label and mount 3 of them. You can have more finished pieces at a small additional cost. You can either frame the pressings yourself or buy one of our frames and we’ll frame them for you. Your finished pieces can either be collected or posted to your home.
Workshops are held at Sailors Jail in Falmouth.
